Registering a Specialty Court

Registering a Specialty Court with OCA

Under Section 121.002 (c) of the Texas Government Code, a Specialty Court program may not operate until the following items are provided to OCA, and the program receives written notice from OCA confirming compliance with registration requirements:

  1. written notice of the program,
  2. any resolution or other official declaration under which the program was established,
  3. and a copy of the applicable community justice plan that incorporates duties related to probation and supervision that will be required under the program.  This could also be satisfied with a copy of the program policy and procedures manual, a participant handbook, or any similar documentation of the program's operations.

These three requirements (including document upload) can be completed on the Specialty Court Registration Portal.

To remain in good standing as a specialty court, programs must also comply with any required data reporting, regardless of funding source.
