Justice Karin Crump was elected to the Third Court of Appeals in 2024. Prior to her election, she served as the presiding judge of the 250th District Court for ten years, overseeing a wide range of complex civil and family law trials, as well as administrative appeals. Before ascending to the bench, she practiced law in Austin and Dallas, handling civil, family, and criminal cases.

A passionate advocate for access to justice, Justice Crump has held leadership roles in several legal organizations. She currently serves on the Board of Editors for The Advocate, the quarterly publication of the State Bar of Texas Litigation Section, and the Council of the Computer & Technology Section. In the past, she has served as President of the Texas Association of District Judges, Chair of the Texas Supreme Court’s Task Force to Expand Legal Service Delivery, and President of the Texas Young Lawyers Association, among others. Justice Crump has also been an active member of various Boards, including the Judicial Section of the State Bar of Texas, the Texas Bar Foundation, and the Texas Bar Journal Board of Editors.

Justice Crump’s dedication to education and mentorship extends to her role as a frequent faculty member for the State Bar of Texas Advanced Continuing Legal Education programs. She has received the Judge Sam Williams Award for her work on jury trials and judicial education during the pandemic, the Austin Young Lawyers Association’s Outstanding Mentor of the Year award, the Distinguished Young Alumnus Award from St. Mary’s University School of Law, and the Outstanding Young Lawyer of Dallas.

Committed to fostering future legal talent, Justice Crump co-founded the Austin Bar Association’s Leadership Academy and serves as the judicial liaison for the Youth Justice Alliance, which mentors first-generation law students. She is a proud graduate of The University of Texas at Austin and St. Mary’s University School of Law.
